The  Stables Guest House

This is a recently renovated old stable block. We’ve fitted ecological features for efficient heating, including new insulation, exterior larch cladding from our own woods, under-floor heating from a ground source heat pump and solar panels for hot water. We aim to give you maximum comfort whilst ensuring that our environmental standards are not compromised.

There are five separate bedrooms, four kingsize and one single, and we are very adaptable to your needs. The rooms can accommodate groups where individuals are happy to share (up to three per room). Alternatively they can be spacious bedrooms for families or couples. The guest house may also be rented out as a whole for large groups.

The three bedrooms upstairs have their own en suite facilities. We can provide cots upon request.

The two bedrooms downstairs, suitable for the disabled, share shower and toilet facilities. One is a kingsize room and the other is a single.

The spacious open plan living room on the ground floor is shared, and has a wood-burning stove, sofas, tables and chairs and tea and coffee making facilities with a fridge and dishwasher.

This lounge is also perfect place for workshops. Flip charts and a projector can be provided, as can yoga mats and additional cushions. This room can be accessed directly from outside or through a lobby where coats and boots are left.

Basic cooking facilities are available and for larger groups we can arrange catering using food from the farm.

Home grown seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, jams, chutneys etc are available to buy.

Bed and home grown organic breakfast £45 per person. Children aged 8-14 are £20, and under 8’s are free.

Please contact us for availability and bookings.

The Camp Site

Our remote campsite is run by The Trill Trust, a charity launched in 2008, that aims to provide experience and education in organic farming, food production, energy generation and other living skills needed to create a sustainable future.

The campsite is not open to the public, but we welcome camping groups of up to 40 from schools, colleges, youth groups etc to use the site as a base for a range of activities. The campsite is basic and offers the experience of wild, simple living. As well as workshop space and the freedom to explore the various habitats on our 300 acres, we can arrange many activities for groups on the farm including farm tours and trails, guided foraging or bush-craft skills and an aerial woodland walkway and zip line.

The campsite facilities include a small open barn and courtyard providing storage, shelter and a place to eat at tables constructed using larch from our woods. Solar powered hot water is available for washing dishes and showering, and all the water is pumped up from our spring. There is also a small solar powered fridge and benches for cooking. There is a fire pit with plenty of wood and, lastly, there are composting toilets.

The site is close to the old railway track which runs through the farm, an ideal area for group activities and observing wildlife. We will do everything we can to ensure you enjoy camping in the open air amongst the abundant nature that thrives here on the farm.

Volunteering at Trill

Trill Farm welcomes volunteers to help out with work around the farm and garden. We enjoy being able to share our organic lifestyle and enabling people to learn about the natural environment and more sustainable farming and food production methods.

Volunteers can come along for a few hours or days a week, for as little or as long as you like (depending on our workload at the time).

We will try to tailor your visits to your interests, e.g. wild harvesting, preserving, cider making, gardening, working with animals, building etc, but you could be asked to participate in any of the seasonal tasks of the farm.

Wwoofing at Trill

We also offer ‘Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms’ (WWOOFing). Wwoofing is an exchange – in exchange for volunteer help we provide food and accommodation during short visits on the farm. For more details about wwoofing and to sign up visit www.wwoof.org.uk.

Our wwoofer accommodation is very basic – a wooden cabin, with a shower and toilet located in a separate building close by. We can accommodate three people or three couples at a time in separate bedrooms, and can accept children and dogs by arrangement.

We need help throughout the year, apart from over Christmas and New Year. Wwoofers can come for two weeks at a time, with the option of extending the stay if we both agree, and are expected to work for 5 ½ hours per day, 5 days per week.

Wwoofers will share meals with different members of the team, and are expected to help with the cooking and clearing up. The food is mostly vegetarian and we can accommodate vegans. Weekends are free time and you may have to cook your own meals then (food will be provided).

The work at Trill varies with the season, and can be hard and muddy at times! There may be help required in the vegetable garden – digging, weeding, sowing, pruning, harvesting etc, and general help around the farm and household – with the animals, crops, fencing, building, chopping wood and so on. Depending on the season there may also be wild harvesting, preserve making and cider making.

If you are interested in volunteering or wwoofing at Trill please contact Zoë (zoe@trillfarm.co.uk).
