Five consecutive Fridays:
6th, 13th, 20th, 27th November, 4th December
9.30am - 4.30pm each day.
This course builds on the Beginners Carpentry course and is also aimed at people with some previous woodworking experience, who understand how to mark out accurately and how to use chisels and planes.
Building on the beginners course, we will be doing more intricate work, including dovetails, grooves and housings.
We will culminate in building a small cupboard to take home, using hardwood from Trill Farm.
Beginners knowledge essential.
COURSE TUTOR: RUTH THOMSON
Since 1986 I have been working with wood as a Carpenter / Joiner and Furniture Maker.
Wood to me is a material that is sympathetic to its environment and this forms the basis on which products are designed and built. This precious material is sourced from trees that are unique in themselves.
For the last five years I have been teaching woodworking skills at The Goodlife Centre in London. My teaching style encourages individuals to learn through hands on experience. I find that crafts are best learnt through a personal relationship to the skill being developed. I am enthusiastic about passing on these skills and work on the understanding that learning a practical skill creates a lot of satisfaction.
The basic skills are just the start of a journey that can lead into many different directions, where ever that bug takes you!
