Join Melissa James for a mid-week retreat where we each give focus to our voices in a group setting with likeminded others.

Taking a mindful approach to our practise, we will journey into a world of sound using our voices. There is no need for any formal musical training and no need to read music. We will work entirely by ear - led by our hearts. Guided by the group participants, Melissa will encourage the exploration of sound intuitively and meditatively. We will sing short phrases, layering with harmonies and parts and we will sing fully formed songs, and circle songs, in varying styles – folk, spirituals, gospel, jazz, pop, blues and any other genre in between.

The aim of this retreat is to welcomely receive respite from our daily living by connecting more deeply with a part of our being which is at our inner core: our voice. We will feel the tension, the fears, the anxieties, the woes; the joys – highs and lows – that we might pack into our vocal suitcase, attempting to release these with ease. Giving ourselves permission to express, be heard and to set our voices free. Our setting will be relaxed and safe and our group will remain small and filled with compassion, leaving our judgements at the door.

Surrounded by the natural beauty and vibrations resonating from farm life, we will make use of available resources, singing outside (weather permitting), and singing in a space where our voices can rise. In turn, our energies will be raised and our senses revitalised. Expect to come away feeling softer, more connected and open-hearted with a sense of peace, restoration and freedom.

All this is complemented by the provision of nourishing organic food prepared onsite by Trill’s own chef and restaurant, the Old Dairy Kitchen.

A short journey of sharing and befriending our true selves, allowing our truth and expression to be heard and to shine using the power of our voices.

There is no need for any formal musical training and no need to read music. No former experience necessary.

Residential tickets are based on sharing a twin room with its own bathroom in our eco-guesthouse. Meals are included in the cost. For non-residential tickets lunch is provided in the cost of the ticket.

Course Leader - Melissa James

Melissa James is a singer, songwriter and performer. Melissa sings with incredible passion for her cause which she feels is to use her voice and her music to form connections with others.

In 2016, the creation of her music and mental health Big Sing initiative SING4SANE led Melissa to develop workshops where she began working more closely with groups of people, leading them to sing and to explore their voices. Melissa takes her work into arts and health establishments alike, sometimes inviting singing workshop participants to sing alongside her during her concert performances.

This special Trill retreat is part of the #LiveAgain Project which is an expansion of the work Melissa has done for SING4SANE. You can watch a video about the SING4SANE project via YouTube HERE.
