Fungal Foray

This two and a half hour forage walk will lead you through the unspoiled beauty of the land around Trill Farm, focusing on finding and foraging fungi. As we walk around we will discuss the importance of fungi in ecology, the specific roles that different fungal species play, suitable environments for fungi, the ethics and practice of sustainable foraging as well as the identification of as many mushrooms as possible.

What will be discovered on the walk is subject to the seasons and weather conditions. The walk is informative but also light-hearted, so interaction is encouraged - feel free to ask any questions at any time.

The walk will be led through a mix of woodland and pastureland and the land can be very wet and muddy. Please wear suitable footwear (waterproof walking boots or wellies are highly recommended).

Course Leader: Nick Phillips

The walk will be conducted by Nick from Chideock Champignons, a local mushroom grower and forager who would scour the fields of West Dorset from a very young age. Nick and business partner Chris supply commercially grown Gourmet mushrooms and foraged treats to various eateries and farm shops in the West Dorset/East Devon region, including the Old Dairy Kitchen at Trill Farm, which will be open for Farm Lunch after the walk has finished (booking is essential).
