A five day course designed for those of you who have completed our Beginners Carpentry course (or equivalent). It will run over five consecutive from Friday 20th April until Friday 18th May.

Expand on the skills you have learnt and step up your level to work with the less forgiving hardwoods. We will be doing more intricate work, including dovetails, grooves and housings, which will culminate in building two pieces to take home, using the wood from Trill Farm.

Course Tutor: Ruth Thomson

Since 1986 I have been working with wood as a carpenter/joiner and furniture maker.

Wood to me is a material that is sympathetic to its environment and this forms the basis on which products are designed and built. This precious material is sourced from trees that are unique in themselves.

For the last five years I have been teaching woodworking skills at The Goodlife Centre in London. My teaching style encourages individuals to learn through hands on experience. I find that crafts are best learnt through a personal relationship to the skill being developed.

I am enthusiastic about passing on these skills and work on the understanding that learning a practical skill creates a lot of satisfaction. The basic skills are just the start of a journey that can lead into many different directions, wherever that bug takes you!
